PURPOSE OF CONFERENCE:
The purpose of the conference is to identify policy gaps between science and society in the United States, particularly with regard to how public policy affects research and, in turn, is influenced by scientific and technical knowledge.

The focus of the presentations and discussions will be on energy and related environmental and security concerns.
